We hunger to be known and understood. We hunger to be loved. We hunger to be at peace inside our own skins. We hunger not just to be fed these things but, often without realizing it, we hunger to feed others these things because they too are starving for them. We hunger not just to be loved but to love, not just to be forgiven but to forgive, not just to be known and understood for all the good times and bad times that for better for worse have made us who we are, but to know and understand each other to the same point of seeing that, in the last analysis, we all have the same good times, the same bad times, and that for that very reason there is no such thing in all the world as anyone who is really a stranger.

    The beginning

I suppose this is the best time to explain what this blog is really all about. In the next year or so, I hope that this will become more than just a place where change is simply spoken of. My best friend, Mez, and I are in the process of starting up a nonprofit. Our journey has just begun, as God is opening our hearts to our purpose. Early this morning we were given the name for our organization, though it doesn't yet actually exist: Eye for an Eye, Heart for a Heart. I know that may seem like we are trying to run before we can walk, but God decided to turn a sore heart into something much more powerful. He does things like that constantly, and I trust He will give us a cause in the coming months.

Mez and I will have joint ownership of this blog, and both will be writing here as we progress. The pair of us are certainly two different people with similar, but different personalities. There will probably be long entries about something that infuriated us, that saddened us, or made us smile. Maybe there will be days where we only write a few words, or simply post a verse or quote that really affected us. What is most important is that everyone is welcome here, no matter what your path in life is.

Today I think I will leave you with a quote by Donald Miller from his book, Through Painted Deserts:

It might be time for you to go. It might be time to change, to shine out.

I want to repeat one word for you:

    Leave.

Roll the word around on your tongue for a bit. It is a beautiful word, isn't it? So strong and forceful, the way you have always wanted to be. And you will not be alone. You have never been alone. Don't worry. Everything will still be here when you get back. It is you who will have changed.

Do something amazing today  -  Sarah
